When creating a successful new website the name usually requires a fair amount of thought. If it's going to be a porn video tube, you might start with the "porn" part and work out where to go from there. Maybe it's a place where all kinds of porn are gathered together, like a kind of "hub". Thus, "PornHub". Or, since it's a tube site and YouTube is already established then just replace the word "tube" with "porn" and you have "YouPorn". Clearly a winner right there.
Or, you could just go with the word "hamster".
I don't know what the guys behind this website were thinking when they came up with that but they must know more than I do because their site is the 10th biggest in the world and mine isn't even the 10th biggest in my street. If it's not in the name then what can we put their success down to?

Owners of these big tube sites would get away with this because under the law they were not held responsible for the content uploaded by the users. Being based in a country like Cyprus also tends to help protect one from complicated legal matters too. Thus, the big tubes like xHamster, XVideos, Pornhub etc. ended up full of full length porn movies. This gained them a huge following, after all what's not to like about being able to watch the entire content of a premium porn site for free?
And now here we are with these big porn tube sites ruling the roost and you will probably have your favorite between them. xHamster has a lot going for it in terms of variety and ease of use. The most popular categories are listed down the side and there are more of them accessible via a dedicated page where you may find such wondrous subjects as "12 inch cock", "anal orgasm", "threesome cumshot" and so on. It has a watch history which you can see without even logging in, which could be quite useful and on the other hand could be quite embarrassing if someone else gets on your computer...
So we are left with the question of why xHamster is not quite as big in viewer numbers as its rivals? Maybe the owners just haven't been quite as aggressive with their marketing techniques. I know that the main two players went around buying an awful lot of links from other porn sites before they got as big as they are.
Or maybe it's down to that name. Should xHamster drop the hamster?
