So what's the big deal with this incredible phenomenon? If you sign up and log in, you may be a little disappointed at first. You get a pretty standard looking social media style home page with a few tame video clips listed. Where is all the juicy stuff that these housewives are doing? Well I'll get to that in a minute.
OnlyFans was founded in 2016 in the UK as a platform for adult performers to show video clips to their subscribers. Once the guy behind the MyFreeCams website got involved, it grew rapidly into a platform for anyone to make and sell their own pornographic material.
It's not all pornographic though - you can also find videos from physical trainers, musicians, nutritionists and so on. Think of it a little like Youtube for adult performers. To see anything at all you will have to sign up for an account. After this you may wonder, well where is everything? Where are all these adult performers?
The thing is, OnlyFans doesn't actually promote any of its content creators itself. It's just a platform to enable them to provide the content and get paid by subscibers. To see the content you have to find the page of the performer you want, and you would find this in places like their Facebook profile, Twitter account, or very likely the watermark in a video they've uploaded to Pornhub or another porn tube. You then click on or browse to that URL and from there, subscribe to their channel.
When ordinary women can make a good monthly income from uploading their own pornographic content to OnlyFans, you have to wonder why any of them would bother doing anything else. In eight short years the website has become astonishingly successful with over 270 million visitors a month and top performers like Bella Thorne and Cardi B making an estimated monthly income of around $10 million. This is changing the face of the porn industry, putting women in control of their own income (for those who choose to go down this route) and connecting performers and fans more directly than ever before. You have to wonder what comes next?
